Michelle Williams Confirms Her Venom Character

Contains potential spoilers for Venom

Michelle Williams is playing a character in Venom who might be able to stick around a while.

Williams was first attached to the upcoming Marvel flick back in September and although everything is still top secret, she recently told ScreenRant who she plays. It's Anne Weying, the ex-wife of Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy).

Introduced in a 1993 issue of Amazing Spider-Man, Weying is a successful lawyer with ties to Peter Parker. But at some point, Weying becomes She-Venom when the alien symbiote temporarily bonds with her and gives her all of Venom's abilities like webbing, shape-shifting, and super-strength.

Of course, it's not clear if Weying will become She-Venom in the movie, and Williams isn't going to spill the beans either way. Here's all she would reveal about working on the film: "I've done one other movie where I was asked to track a tennis ball with my eyes and pretend it was a giant creature thing. Not my favorite thing in the world to do, but it is a skill set and I'm trying to learn it. And uh, she's, geez, what can I tell you? Not too much right now."

However, Williams did admit what brought her to the project. "Well, for me it's Tom [Hardy]," she said. "I just thought, 'Well, that guy knows what he's doing.' I'm just going to go steal some of his moves, figure out what he knows. I just wanted to, you know, you're only as good as the people you play with and I really wanted to challenge myself with him as a partner."

Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) will direct Sony's Venom, which won't be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe or feature Spider-Man although the two characters are closely linked. Woody Harrelson (War for the Planet of the Apes), Riz Ahmed (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) and Jenny Slate (The Polka King) are also in the flick. Look for it Oct. 5, 2018.
