David Oyelowo Gets Kidnapped In Gringo Trailer
David Oyelowo is in deep trouble in the first trailer for the upcoming dark comedy Gringo. The movie features Oyelowo as Harold Soyinka, a mild-mannered businessman who finds himself in trouble in Mexico as he is hunted by his back-stabbing business colleagues back home, local drug lords, and a morally conflicted black-ops mercenary.
The trailer kicks off with Charlize Theron's Elaine Markinson and Joel Edgerton's Richard Rusk trying to sell a new marijuana pill to two reluctant businessmen (Alan Ruck and Kenneth Choi). "Most people will tell you Buzz Aldrin walked on the moon, but even a complete idiot will tell you Neil Armstrong did it first," Elaine tells them. "Do you know why Neil Armstrong did it first? Because he pushed Buzz Aldrin the f**k out of the way and seized history by the ball sack."
With the pill now officially sold, Elaine and Richard recruit Harold to go to Mexico and hand deliver the formula himself. Harold is just a regular guy, but he's in deep water– "like bankruptcy deep." Still, to date, Harold's idea of an adventure is taking merlot out of the mini bar, something which does not prepare him well for being kidnapped by a group of Mexican drug lords. Elaine and Richard send a man (Sharlto Copley) to get him back, but it doesn't look like this will be an easy rescue.
Amanda Seyfried, Thandie Newton, Yul Vazquez, and Paris Jackson also star in Gringo, which was directed by Nash Jackson, a stunt coordinator for Zero Dark Thirty, The Wolverine, and American Ultra, based off a script from Matthew Stone (Intolerable Cruelty) and Anthony Tambakis (Jane Got A Gun). Gringo hits theaters on March 9, 2018.
