Ron Cephas Jones Reportedly In Talks For The Wizard Role In Shazam!
We already know who will play both the young and grown versions of Billy Batson in Shazam!, and now we may have learned who will give him his powers.
TheWrap reports that Emmy-nominated This Is Us actor Ron Cephas Jones is in talks to play the Wizard in the movie from David F. Sandberg (Lights Out). It's not confirmed yet, but it's certainly intriguing.
In the comics, an ancient wizard named Shazam who guarded the Seven Deadly Sins bestows his powers on the young Batson (Asher Angel), who only has to speak the wizard's name to transform into the adult superhero (Zachary Levi) known as Captain Marvel. Later on, Batson began using the name Shazam instead. Levi said the movie will be like "Superman meets Big."
Jones is best known for playing William Hill on This Is Us, but he also plays Bobby Fish on Luke Cage and Romero on Mr. Robot.
The cast also includes Mark Strong as the villainous Doctor Sivana, Jack Dylan Grazer, Grace Fulton, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand, Cooper Andrews, and Faithe Herman (also from This Is Us).
The script comes from Henry Gayden and Darren Lemke and production is expected to start next month in Toronto. Shazam! will land in theaters on April 5, 2019.
