This might prove how far ahead of its time the original Heathers really was.
The Paramount Network unveiled a new red-band trailer for the upcoming series based on the 1988 cult classic, and while the clothes and technology have changed, the themes are as timely as ever.
Set in the present day, the show centers on "good girl" Veronica Sawyer (Grace Victoria Cox) who's tormented by a vicious clique of "Heathers" ruling Westerburg High. Led by unconventional leader Heather Chandler (Melanie Field), the new Heathers include the ruthless Heather Duke (Brendan Scannell) and the considerably more pleasant Heather McNamara (Jasmine Mathews).
Just like in the movie, Veronica falls for the mysterious new boy in town, JD Dean (James Scully), who encourages her to really live while destroying the Heathers that hold her back. But that's a dangerous path, and soon not even Veronica is safe.
The new trailer features our first glimpse at Shannon Doherty, who played Heather Duke in the original and guest stars on the series. It's not clear how many episodes she'll be in, but IMDB lists her character's name as "Heather." How very.
Heathers will premiere on the Paramount Network on March 7.
