Here's When Gotham Season 4 Will Return
To those waiting to head back to Gotham City and all its chaos, you'd better clear some space on your calendar.
Fox announced that Gotham season four will return on Thursday, March 1. The news came via the series' official Twitter account. "Strap in because Gotham returns on March 1!" the confirmation tweet reads, accompanied by three creepy clown emojis and a photo of Cameron Monaghan's criminally insane, psychopathic killer Jerome Valeska wearing prison garb and a slightly worried look on his heavily scarred face.
The network also unveiled a preview clip for the midseason premiere episode, titled "You Have No Idea What's Really Going On," to tease what our heroes and villains will get up to next. It's mostly comprised of previously released footage, but the promo does promise that when Gotham loops back around to the small screen, a bundle of ruthless villains — like a brand-new iteration of Poison Ivy — will stake their claim on the city, flooding Gotham with madness, mayhem, and even murder.

Monaghan's Jerome has been the focal point of Gotham's season four marketing, but we know that he isn't the Joker, as the real Crown Prince of Crime will be introduced to the show later on. Series star David Mazouz, who plays Bruce Wayne/Batman, confirmed this fact during a recent interview.
"[Jerome is] not the Joker, that's all I'm saying," he explained. "He's definitely the inspiration for the Joker ... the way that the Joker comes into the show is one of the most brilliant things Gotham has ever done."
Monaghan later added (via ComicBook.com), "I can confirm. What we've cooked up and discussed is something not to be missed. It's a twist on familiar themes, both new and old echoes of the mythos. Something entirely new, but we believe true to the spirit of the show as well as the comics. Proud I got to be a part of it."
Here's the official synopsis for the series' current season: "Season four of Gotham will witness the emergence of the criminal landscape for which Gotham City is best known, with Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) and Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue) at the forefront of the fight against the most depraved and unhinged villains. While Gotham City fights for normalcy, a new hero will rise, as Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) begins to assume responsibility for the city's well-being. As the city sinks deeper into chaos, Gotham will continue to follow the evolving stories of the city's most malevolent villains: The Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor); Edward Nygma/the future Riddler (Cory Michael Smith); Selina Kyle/the future Catwoman (Camren Bicondova); Barbara Kean (Erin Richards); Tabitha Galavan/Tigress (Jessica Lucas); and Butch Gilzean (Drew Powell). The series also will catch up with the future Poison Ivy (Maggie Geha), who, after an encounter with a monster from Indian Hill, finds herself reborn as a young woman who's harnessed the full power of her charms."
Gotham will return to Fox on Thursday, March 1 at 8 p.m. ET.
