Captain Marvel Takes Down A Bad Guy In First Set Video
It's like the ABBA song: Just one touch, and Captain Marvel will make your ears ring (and knees buckle ... and legs give out.)
Hot off the exhilarating unveiling of actress Brie Larson in costume as Carol Danvers for Captain Marvel, the first-ever video from the film's set has surfaced.
First shown on Entertainment Tonight, and subsequently captured and posted to Twitter by eager Marvel fans, the footage features Larson's Captain Marvel suited up in the same black and green get-up we saw in the previously released photos. She's shown standing opposite a leather-clad bad guy, shaking his hand. Suddenly, he's sent crumbling to the pavement in a fit of unbearable pain, clearly experiencing the intense effects of Captain Marvel's super-human strength. The powerful hero, on the other hand, looks completely unfazed, as if bringing a dude to his knees is just another day in the life. (Which it kind of is when you're Captain Marvel.)
An extended version of the scene showed up on Instagram, detailing the moments before the encounter: Captain Marvel casually reads what looks to be a map, and then the smug-faced biker comes along and seemingly expresses his distaste for her presence. She extends her hand (probably to sarcastically introduce herself) and the zapping ensues thereafter.
Both clips prove that Captain Marvel will likely live up to Marvel Studio head Kevin Feige's past comments about her: She'll be the strongest character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe thus far. "All of the Marvel characters have flaws to them [and] all of them have a deep humanity to them," Feige stated in 2017. "With Captain Marvel, she is as powerful a character as we've ever put in a movie. Her powers are off the charts, and when she's introduced, she will be by far the strongest character we've ever had. It's important, then, to counterbalance that with someone who feels real. She needs to have a humanity to tap into, and Brie [Larson] can do that."
Captain Marvel might also be one of the best-dressed heroes in the MCU, wearing the cool-toned emerald suit to start off, then possibly changing into her more traditional red, blue, and gold costume later on.
Directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, Captain Marvel also features Jude Law as Walter Lawson/Mar-Vell and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury. Ben Mendelsohn and DeWanda Wise round out the main cast.
Captain Marvel will fly into theaters on March 8, 2019.
