Claire Foy Is Unsane In The Trailer For Steven Soderbergh's iPhone Movie
It used to be that you needed at least tens of thousands of dollars and a ton of expensive and heavy equipment to make a feature-length movie. Now you just need your phone.
Bleecker Street released the first trailer for Unsane, the upcoming thriller directed by Steven Soderbergh (Ocean's Eleven, Logan Lucky), and the entire movie was shot on an iPhone. It really makes that footage of your nephew's birthday party seem a little less than award-worthy.
Unsane stars Claire Foy (The Crown) as a woman who believes she's been committed to a mental hospital against her will. But it might be more complicated than that. The synopsis is: "Is she ... or isn't she?"
Shot in just two weeks last year, the movie also stars Juno Temple, Joshua Leonard, and Jay Pharoah.
So how did Soderbergh pull it off without a traditional Hollywood setup? He told Empire that new camera technology gave him the opportunity to shoot in 4K. "If I'd have had this technology when I was 15, I'd have a very different career," he said.
Soderbergh also said the film is ""designed to be a very visceral, in-your-grill experience," and an iPhone definitely helps get into to some tight spaces. Pharoah recently said the movie has a vibe similar to Jordan Peele's Get Out and he really had fun during the quick shoot. "t was just a dope experience," he said. "The movie kind of reminds me of some reality-type horror — almost Get Out-ish, but different, which feels good."
Unsane arrives in theaters on March 23. Check out the poster below.
