Hulu Invites You Home To Castle Rock In New Trailer
Hulu is scaring up a Super Bowl spot for its upcoming spooky series, Castle Rock.
Created by J. J. Abrams, Castle Rock is Hulu's latest Stephen King adaptation, but with a twist. Rather than being based on any one book by the prolific author, the series will pick elements from a number of his works, telling a new story with familiar iconography.
The new trailer for the series, a 30-second spot set to run during the second quarter of the Super Bowl, leans into the references right away. As the trailer opens, André Holland's character Henry receives a mysterious call from the Shawshank correctional facility, beckoning him home to Castle Rock — and that's just the first of many tips of the hat to King's prior works in the new trailer. How many references can you spot?
Castle Rock is one of several fictional towns in Maine that King has created for use in his stories, with other recurring cities from his fiction including Derry and Jerusalem's Lot. Due to its appearance in many of his books, the city serves as a perfect setting for a chopped-and-screwed reinterpretation of King's entire canon, bringing many elements of his stories together to one profoundly freaky place.
In addition to Holland, the series will star Melanie Lynskey, Sissy Spacek, Terry O'Quinn, Scott Glenn, Bill Skarsgård, and Jane Levy.
Castle Rock will debut on Hulu this summer. If the Super Bowl spot doesn't do it for you, check out the first look teaser for the upcoming series now.
