Ready Player One Trailer Reveals A World Of Pure Imagination
If you're in the mood for an Easter egg hunt, Steven Spielberg has an epic one for you.
Warner Bros. unleashed a new trailer for Ready Player One, the upcoming sci-fi flick based on the book by Ernest Cline, and it's brimming with pop culture references. You don't have to look very hard to see King Kong, the Iron Giant, and the DeLorean from Back to the Future. And that's just the beginning.
Set in 2045, the movie takes place in a world that's teetering on total collapse. But while most people are relegated to dreary lives in stacks of trailers, they find true salvation in the OASIS, a massive virtual reality universe created by the eccentric James Halliday (Mark Rylance). When Halliday dies, he promises his fortune and control of the OASIS to the first person to find an Easter egg he's hidden within the virtual world. That prompts a young man named Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) to join the contest, only to be thrust into real-world danger.
We've already gotten a few glimpses of the flick thanks to a trailer that premiered at San Diego Comic-Con and another trailer released a few months back. But every new clip is a new opportunity to search for more pop culture references, mostly from the '80s. Spielberg said he won't include any nods to his own work aside from Back to the Future, which he executive produced, but that definitely looks like the T-Rex from Jurassic Park in there.
Ready Player One will hit theaters March 29.
