Jared Leto Joins The Yakuza In NSFW Trailer For The Outsider
Jared Leto is moving from Suicide Squad to a very different criminal organization in a new movie for Netflix.
The streaming service released the NSFW first trailer for The Outsider, a dark thriller set in Japan after World War II. Leto plays Nick Lowell, an American soldier imprisoned there. But when his cellmate — a member of the Yakuza — helps to get him released, Nick fights to earn a place in the crime syndicate in order to repay his debt. "In life, sometimes we fight the current," Leto says in the trailer. "Other times, it's important to flow the river."
The Outsider has been in development for a while, and there were talks that Tom Hardy or Michael Fassbender could take the lead. But Leto snagged the role and stars in the finished product directed by Martin Zandvliet (Land of Mine).
The cast also includes Tadanobu Asano (Thor: Ragnarok), Kippei Shiina (Outrage), Shioli Kutsuna (My Back Pages), Emile Hirsch (Into the Wild), Rory Cochrane (Argo), Nao Omori (Ichi the Killer) and Min Tanaka (The Twilight Samurai).
Leto, who won an Oscar for his performance in 2013's Dallas Buyers Club, recently starred as the Joker in DC's Suicide Squad and played the villainous Niander Wallace in Blade Runner 2049.
The Outsider premieres March 9 on Netflix. Check out the poster below.
