House Of Cards Final Season Teaser Hails Claire Underwood As Chief
The future of House of Cards is in the hands of a new leader.
Netflix premiered the first teaser for the upcoming sixth and final season of the political drama during the 2018 Oscars, and former star Kevin Spacey is nowhere in sight. Instead, the teaser hails Robin Wright's Claire Underwood as the chief, putting her behind the desk in the Oval Office.
The footage seems mostly shot just for the teaser, but the centerpiece is the reveal of Claire, the wife of Spacey's Frank Underwood, as the new president. "We're just getting started," she declares in the brief trailer.
Netflix announced that the sixth season of House of Cards will be the last shortly after Star Trek: Discovery actor Anthony Rapp alleged that Spacey had made sexual advances toward him when he was 14 years old. The streaming service promptly cut ties with Spacey and halted production until a new plan could be put in place.
Back in December, it was revealed that the sixth season will consist of just eight episodes and focus on Wright's character. Although it's not exactly clear how the show will address the absence of its former protagonist, Netflix president Ted Sarandos said the final season will "bring closure of the show for fans."
Diane Lane and Greg Kinnear, both Oscar-nominated performers, have also signed on for recurring roles in season 6. Details about their characters have not been revealed except that they're siblings. Cody Fern (Versace: American Crime Story) will also join the cast as a character created before Spacey's departure.
House of Cards will return for its swan song this fall.
