Chadwick Boseman To Host Saturday Night Live
Chadwick Boseman is heading to Saturday Night Live. The Black Panther star was announced as the host of the April 7th show during the sketch series' Bill Hader-hosted March 17th episode, alongside musical guest Cardi B.
This will be Boseman's first time hosting the sketch series. His Black Panther co-star Sterling K. Brown, who also appears on NBC's hit drama series This Is Us, hosted the show's March 10th episode and appeared in a sketch parodying the Marvel superhero flick, featuring Chris Redd in Boseman's role of T'Challa. Kenan Thompson and Leslie Jones also starred in the sketch, which took place in Black Panther's ancestral plane.
Black Panther has been breaking box office records since its February release. The movie has held on to the number one spot for the past five weekends in a row, becoming the first film since 2009's Avatar to do so. It is also only the seventh movie to pass $600 million domestic and currently holds the title for the second highest grossing superhero film of all time, after only Marvel's The Avengers. Danai Gurira, Lupita Nyong'o, Letitia Wright, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker, Andy Serkis, Martin Freeman, and Michael B. Jordan also star in Black Panther, which was directed by Ryan Coogler based on a script he co-wrote with Joe Robert Cole. The movie, which received a rare A+ CinemaScore from audiences and holds a 97 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, currently sits at $1.18 billion worldwide. It is the fourteenth highest grossing film worldwide of all time.
Boseman's episode of Saturday Night Live will air at 11:30 p.m. ET on NBC on April 7th.
