Action Point Trailer: Johnny Knoxville Brings Jackass To An Amusement Park

Believe it or not, it's been almost 20 years since Jackass premiered on MTV and Johnny Knoxville still seems eager to beat himself up for our pleasure.

Paramount released the first trailer for Action Point, and it combines all of the reckless stunt work of Jackass with an actual plot. It's sort of like Bad Grandpa meets Adventureland, but presumably with more bumps and bruises.

Knoxville stars as D.C., the eccentric owner of a ramshackle theme park where the rides are designed to maximize fun and minimize boring things like safety. But just as D.C.'s estranged daughter Boogie (Eleanor Worthington-Cox) comes to visit, a corporate-owned mega-park opens nearby and threatens to run Action Point out of business.

To save his beloved theme park along with his relationship with his daughter, D.C. and his crew (including Jackass veteran Chris Pontius) pull out all the stops and try anything they can to attract new visitors. From the looks of it, that means cutting the brakes, offering free beer, opening up a questionable petting zoo, and putting everyone on a direct course for the emergency room.

The movie is based on a very real and very dangerous theme park in New Jersey that operated from 1976 to 1996 and was notorious for having poorly designed and unsafe rides along with underaged and often under-the-influence staff members.

It's good to see Knoxville in action again; the last time we saw him on the big screen was in 2013's Dickhouse-produced Bad Grandpa. Meanwhile, lots of the original Jackass cast members have gone onto other things, possibly because of the toll some of these infamous stunts took on them.

While we hold out hope for a Jackass 4 (which might not ever happen), Action Point is set to crash into theaters on June 1.
