Solo: A Star Wars Story Debuts New Trailer
Han Solo learns the tricks of the trade in the new trailer for Solo: A Star Wars Story. The upcoming standalone film is set to feature Alden Ehrenreich as a younger version of the gunslinger Harrison Ford played in the original Star Wars trilogy, telling the story of how he came to be the famed thief and hustler.
"You're after something," Emilia Clarke's Qi'Ra says to Han at the start of the trailer. "Is it revenge? Money? Or is it something else?" Although we don't find out the answer to her question just yet, we do see that Han has been recruited by Woody Harrelson's Tobias Beckett to help with a job. "I'm a driver and I'm a flier," Han says. "I've waited a long time for a shot like this."
The trailer also features Han meeting up with a young Lando Calrissian, with Donald Glover taking over the part famously played by Billy Dee Williams. "I've heard a story about you, I was wondering if it's true," Han says to him. "Everything you've heard about me is true," Lando replies. The group eventually teams up for an adventure, which will clearly help Han develop into the character audiences came to know and love in the original trilogy. "Let me give you some advice," Beckett tells him. "Assume everyone will betray you and you will never be disappointed."
Solo: A Star Wars Story is directed by Ron Howard, who took over for the original directors, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, after they were let go with just a few weeks left of filming due to creative differences with Lucasfilm. (The pair will instead get an executive producer credit.) The movie, which was written by Lawrence and Jon Kasdan, also stars Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Paul Bettany, and Joonas Suotamo.
Solo: A Star Wars Story hits theaters on May 25.
