Kevin Smith Stand-Up Special Silent But Deadly Coming To Showtime
Kevin Smith is standing up for Showtime.
Writer/director/actor/podcaster Kevin Smith isn't letting a little heart attack keep him down. According to the filmmaker, Showtime has set a release date for his upcoming stand-up special, Silent But Deadly. The live performance is set to premiere on the network on Friday, May 11.
"The comedy special I was shooting with @comedydynamics the night I almost died of a heart attack has been picked up by @Showtime!" Smith announced via his Twitter account. "Mark your calendars: It airs MAY 11th on the same network as @SHO_Homeland! Thanks for the home, #Showtime!"
Smith suffered a massive heart attack that required hospitalization during the recording process for the special, tweeting out a message about his health crisis after filming one of his shows on February 26.
"After the first show this evening, I had a massive heart attack," Smith tweeted. "The Doctor who saved my life told me I had 100% blockage of my LAD artery (aka "the Widow-Maker"). If I hadn't canceled show 2 to go to the hospital, I would've died tonight. But for now, I'm still above ground!"
While not having a reputation as a stand-up comedian, Smith has a long track record with live performances. A prolific podcaster, he has toured the world giving off-the-cuff and comedic talks about his life and filmmaking career for years, with the results often being filmed for later release. Five such talks, which are also accompanied with question-and-answer sessions, have been produced, with the most recent being the 2012 Epix release Kevin Smith: Burn In Hell.
Aside from his stand-up work, Smith has a number of other projects in the works, including a new Jay and Silent Bob movie, horror anthology Killroy Was Here, as well as more directing gigs with the CW's DC shows such as Supergirl and Arrow.
According to Smith's social media, the filmmaker is doing much better since his health scare, and is currently in the process of losing 50 pounds.
