Game Of Thrones Has An 'Unpredictable' Ending, Star Sophie Turner Says

Think you know how Game of Thrones will end its epic eight-season run? Well, exit the drawing board, close the theory-crafting journal, lock the basement where all the big Hollywood rumors originate, and leave wherever else it is you dream up ideas, because you're not going to be able to predict how the storied series really wraps up.

Actress Sophie Turner, who has played the flame-haired Sansa Stark since the very start of Game of Thrones, told Digital Spy that the series' conclusion "really is so unpredictable." And for her part, that element of surprise is what makes the ending so satisfying. She hopes that Thrones loyals will feel the same.

"I was satisfied with how unpredictable the show's ending really is," Turner stated. "People have come up with so many fan theories about how it's going to end, and who will end up where, and who will end up with who. It really is so unpredictable the way that it ends up. I'm very satisfied with that, and I think that the fans will be satisfied with that, too."

With the series as shrouded in secrecy as it has always been, Turner couldn't divulge many details about what goes down, but she did offer a few teases to tide fans over until season 8 premieres in 2019.

The actress hinted that Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin gave showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss "his blessing" to do with the series' storylines as they pleased after it caught up with the events of Martin's novels. As a result, Thrones comes to an interesting end of the road — one that perhaps Martin himself can't even foresee, but one that makes sense to Benioff and Weiss and honors the source material as best as possible.

"From reading the books thus far, it was their interpretation of where they thought the show would go. They're still doing justice to the story, and serving the characters in the way they feel like they should be," said Turner, adding that the creative pair "upped the ante" for the last season of Game of Thrones. "They've got nice, big battle scenes, that's for sure," she stated.

Turner also promised that the Thrones-related tattoo she recently got doesn't at all spoil what happens in season 8. During an appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden, the actress showed off the ink that caused quite a commotion amongst fans: a delicate tattoo of a direwolf with the quote "The Pack Survives" stamped beneath it. Many believed that this meant the Starks would emerge victorious in the final battle for the throne in season 8, but in actuality, there's no further meaning behind it; it's simply a tattoo of the House Stark sigil paired with a quote from season 7.

"That would be terrible, if I got the ending tattooed on my body," Turner said. "That would be so stupid."

Game of Thrones is one of the twistiest, most jaw-dropping TV series out there (we're still talking about The Red Wedding from season 3), and when it comes to its final hour, things are only going to get more intense. Will Jon Snow and his aunt-lover Daenerys Targaryen take to King's Landing and rule together? Will the White Walkers kidnap Cersei Lannister and gobble her up in a gory feast? And what about Bran? Is he going to fulfill his ultimate destiny to become the Three-Eyed Raven in its truest form? Anything goes on Thrones, especially in its final outing.

As much as we'd like to go full Charlie Kelly and cover a wall with notes on what we think will happen, we're just going to have to be content with knowing nothing until Game of Thrones returns sometime in 2019
