HBO Confirms Jon Snow's Parents On Game Of Thrones

There's no need to theorize about Jon Snow's true parents anymore. After all but confirming the long-believed fan theory that Ned Stark didn't actually father the new King in the North, HBO has unveiled a detailed family tree confirming it.

In a flashback during the Season 6 finale, a young Ned Stark enters the Tower of Joy to find his sister, Lyanna, bloodied and dying after giving birth. Lyanna whispers something important to him (presumably that the baby's father is Rhaegar Targaryen, son of the former mad king Areys II and brother of Daenerys Targaryen) before showing that the newborn grows up to be Jon Snow. Of course, that would mean that Snow is part Stark and Targaryen.

Just a few days after the episode aired, HBO officially spoiled all the "R+L=J" fun – and in infographic form, no less. A black line connecting two characters represents parentage, as proven by lines like the one drawn between Tywin and Jaime Lannister. And although all the crisscrossing make the graphic a little difficult to read, there's clearly a line connecting Snow directly to Lyanna Stark and, yes, finally, Rhaegar Targaryen.

While that's one mystery solved, it definitely creates a ton more questions for Season 7.
