Star Wars: Rogue One International Trailer Features New Footage
Just a few days after the release of a new official trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Lucasfilm unveiled a shorter international version. But don't let its brevity fool you: the 90-second clip features a key plot reveal.
The action-packed trailer includes a look at a few new scenes, and perhaps the most significant revolves around the father of Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones). The character of Galen Erso (Hannibal's Mads Mikkelsen) seems to play an important part in the storyline. Turns out that he's the one who warns the Rebels about the Empire's Death Star.
Near the beginning of last week's trailer, Rebellion leader Mon Mothma (Genevieve O'Reilly) tells Jyn Erso, "We have a mission for you. A major weapons test is imminent. We need to know how to destroy it." But at the start of the international version, Rebel intelligence officer Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) adds, "The message was sent by your father."
Earlier this spring, Mikkelsen let slip that his character is actually playing Jones' father, and the trailer's new detail likely means that Galen Erso is either a prisoner of the Empire or an Imperial traitor. Either way, it definitely explains why Jyn Erso is so eager to battle the Empire.
Rogue One is set for release Dec. 16. Check out everything we think we know about it.
