Why Sam Neill Won't Be In Jurassic World 2
Anyone who gets a car stuck in a tree in Jurassic World 2 will have to find a way down without Dr. Alan Grant.
Actor Sam Neill, who portrayed the skeptical paleontologist in the original trilogy, revealed in an interview with ShortList that his character won't appear in the upcoming sequel.
"The call hasn't come," Neill said, and he has his own theory as to why. "No one can find Grant. He's disappeared. Someone found his hat. His hat was floating on the Hudson River, but that was the last ever heard of him."
He then offered his own take on what happened to Grant after we last saw him in 2001's Jurassic Park III. "He's retired from paleontology. He's sick to death of dinosaurs and running. He's not quite as fleet of foot as he was, and he's now retired to Dayton, Ohio, and has a very successful accountancy business. I think that's what's happened to Alan. Either that or he's dead. How do you recover from all of that stuff? I don't think therapists are trained to deal with post-dino stuff. No, I don't think you get over it. Accountancy would be one way."
Although it sounds like we won't see Neill in Jurassic World 2, he did say that he re-teamed with director Taika Waititi (Hunt for the Wilderpeople) on the set of Marvel's Thor: Ragnarok. But Neill quickly took to Twitter to clarify that he might not actually be in that film, either.
Not sure I'm IN #ThorRagnarok exactly. Was ON SET 4 or 5 days. Making tea for @TaikaWaititi mostly. Working out w @chrishemsworth etc https://t.co/p6RtY35ej9

We'll find out if Neill is in Thor: Ragnarok when it's released Nov. 3, 2017. But we probably shouldn't look for him in Jurassic World 2, expected in theaters June 22, 2018. Of course, there's also a Jurassic World 3 reportedly in the works, since writer and producer Colin Trevorrow revealed the reboot series is actually a trilogy.
In the meantime, check out a few things that still bother us about Jurassic Park, and things in Jurassic World that make no sense (via Grunge).
