Evangeline Lilly Says The Wasp Will Be In Avengers 4
It's no secret that the Wasp will soon fly into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but now we know there are bigger plans for the diminutive character.
The Wasp is the super alter-ego of Evangeline Lilly's Ant-Man character, Hope Van Dyne, and a scene during that movie's end credits teased that it won't be long before she puts on her own suit and shrinks down to battle alongside Paul Rudd's Scott Lang.
When Marvel announced the sequel last year, the title of Ant-Man and the Wasp definitely hinted that Van Dyne will be far more than a supporting character in the MCU.
Blastr caught up with Lilly during New York Comic Con, and she revealed exactly when we'll see the Wasp in action. "I'm excited because [Ant Man and the Wasp] is essentially going to be the origin of the Wasp," she said. "We're going to see the Wasp for the first time take on the mantle, and put on the suit, and fly about, and do her thing."
But the big news is that the Wasp will also show up in the sequel to the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War, which arrives two months before the Ant-Man sequel in 2018. "The Wasp won't be in [Infinity War]," Lilly said. "She'll be in the second part because they want to preserve that reveal for Ant-Man and the Wasp."
For those unfamiliar with the character, the Wasp first appeared on the pages of Marvel's Tales to Astonish in 1963, and she was a founding member of the Avengers. She has the ability to shrink down to just a few centimeters and is usually depicted with insectoid wings. If that sounds an awful lot like DC's Bumblebee, there's a reason for that.
