Captain Marvel Movie Confirmed To Be Origin Story
Sounds like Captain Marvel will start at the beginning.
Details about the upcoming Marvel flick starring Brie Larson as Carol Danvers have been relatively hard to come by, but Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige recently revealed an important piece of information about the plot.
He told CinemaBlend that the movie will tell the story of how Danvers becomes Captain Marvel, as opposed to picking up after she's already made the transition. The fact that Larson was cast before a director was brought aboard prompted rumors that the character could first show up in an ensemble movie the way Black Panther was introduced in Captain America: Civil War ahead of his own upcoming solo film.
"[Black] Panther is not really an origin story, since we saw him already in Civil War," Feige said. "But his standalone certainly introduces you to 99% of his world that you never saw. And Captain Marvel is certainly an origin. It's an origin story from the start."
In the comics, Danvers becomes Captain Marvel after her DNA is fused with an alien device. She winds up with super-strength, super-speed, and the ability to fly.
When Feige announced Marvel's Phase 3, he said that Captain Marvel is "one of the most, if not the most, powerful heroes in the MCU." The character was originally in the script for 2015's Avengers: Age of Ultron, but Feige later said the studio wanted to hold off on introducing her just yet.
Captain Marvel will arrive in theaters March 8, 2019. Find out why the movie might tweak her origin story a little.
