First Trailer For Ghost In The Shell Revealed

If all those glitchy, 10-second teasers of the live-action Ghost in the Shell adaptation seemed more frustrating than fulfilling, this should be far more satisfying.

Paramount released the first official trailer for the flick starring Scarlett Johansson, and it looks like the movie should have plenty to appease fans of the original manga classic along with newcomers to the franchise.

Johansson plays Major Motoko Kusanagi, the half-human, half-cyborg leader of a special division of the Japanese National Public Safety Commission called Section 9. The task force is devoted to stopping dangerous extremists and according to the synopsis, "Section 9 is faced with an enemy whose singular goal is to wipe out Hanka Robotic's advancements in cyber technology."

Of course, the Major doesn't only battle the film's villain (Michael Pitt), she's also struggling with the nature of her own existence. But aren't we all?

Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman) helmed the film, and from the look of the trailer (set to a cover of Depeche Mode's "Enjoy the Silence" by Ki: Theory), it'll remain pretty faithful to Masamune Shirow's original animated version–right down to Johansson's "nude" thermoptic bodysuit.

The movie arrives in theaters March 31, 2017. While we wait, check out more about how the filmmakers recreated the Major's iconic outfit.
