New Details About Darth Vader In Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
Very little is known about Darth Vader's role in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, except that he definitely shows up and definitely looks awesome in the trailers.
Although it's not yet clear how much screen time he'll get, a new batch of photos (via Entertainment Weekly) offers a new glimpse of the Sith Lord and a few details about how he factors into the plot.
Kiri Hart, Lucasfilm's head of story development, hinted that Vader has a volatile working relationship with Imperial special weapons director Orson Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn), and they don't necessarily see eye-to-mask about how to use the newly constructed Death Star.
"Here is the thing about Krennic: his perspective obviously is that of a person who doesn't understand the Force," said Hart. "And Darth Vader comes at everything from the perspective of understanding the Force. So that, I think, is the thing that you see sort of separating Darth Vader from other characters with regards to a super-weapon like this. There are military men who are interested in a really effective piece of military hardware, and Darth Vader is a little bit beyond that, right? He's tapped into something on another level, on a spiritual level. So, that's part of the fun of Vader in the context of the Imperial Military. He's got a broader perspective."
That would definitely explain why Vader doesn't seem all that thrilled with Krennic in the little footage we've seen. And, of course, we know Vader survives to fight more battles down the road, so things might not work out all that great for Krennic.
Either way, we can't wait for Rogue One to hit theaters Dec. 16. Check out everything we think we know about it.
