The Mummy Teaser Offers First Look At Universal's Rebooted Monster Universe
Tom Cruise has a new threat to run away from.
Universal unveiled a teaser for the upcoming reboot of The Mummy, and although it's brief, it promises that the first full trailer will arrive Dec. 4.
Cruise plays a Navy SEAL hunting terrorists when he comes across the monster, played by Sofia Boutella (Kingsman: The Secret Service, Star Trek Beyond). She's an ancient princess who is awakened in the present-day and, for whatever reason, she doesn't seem at all pleased about it.
The flick is the first official installment in Universal's return to the studio's classic monster universe, which informally kicked off with 2014's Dracula Untold. Alex Kurtzman (co-writer of Star Trek and The Amazing Spider-Man 2) directs, based on a script by Jon Spaihts (co-writer of Doctor Strange and Prometheus).
Meanwhile, Russell Crowe recently revealed to Collider that he plays Dr. Jekyll in The Mummy, presumably paving the way for more appearances down the line. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Johnny Depp has signed on to play the Invisible Man in the new monster universe, and Variety said Javier Bardem could play Frankenstein.
The Mummy is set for release June 9, 2017. Check out the poster below.
