Marvel's Cloak & Dagger Casts Its Lead Couple
A former Disney Channel star and a relative unknown will unite for Marvel's Cloak & Dagger on Freeform, Deadline reports.
The series follows an interracial couple who are brought together by their powers. Olivia Holt, an actress and singer who is best known for the Disney XD series Kickin' It, will star as Tandy Bowen, aka Dagger. Raised with privilege, Tandy, who can emit light daggers, is forced to adapt after a storm uproots her life.
Aubrey Joseph, who had a recurring role for three episodes on HBO's The Night Of, will play Tyrone Johnson, aka Cloak. Cloak, who can engulf people in darkness, wanted to be fearless as a child, but became afraid after losing everything he held close.
"The characters of Tandy and Tyrone have always stood out to me ever since I first met them in the pages of Marvel comics when I was a boy," said Cloak & Dagger executive producer and showrunner Joe Pokaski (Heroes). "When Olivia and Aubrey read for the roles, these characters leapt off the page. We're so excited to see what these talented young actors bring to the Marvel universe."
Freeform ordered the show straight to series in April, Variety reported. There is no word yet on when it will premiere.
"Marvel is delighted to have found our Cloak and Dagger," said Jeph Loeb, head of Marvel Television and executive producer. "Olivia Holt and Aubrey Joseph encompass the true essence of the characters and we are excited for the audience to see them in these roles."
Cloak and Dagger are two of many mysterious characters that Marvel is planning on bringing to the big or small screen. The show will join two other Marvel series in the ABC family: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the upcoming The Inhumans.
