Hear Emma Watson Sing In First Beauty And The Beast Clip
Fans waiting to hear Emma Watson's singing voice have just gotten their best glimpse at her pipes yet in the first clip from the upcoming live-action Disney remake of Beauty and the Beast.
In the clip, Watson takes on a classic Beauty and the Beast scene, bringing to life the film's introductory song, "Belle." The clip closely mirrors the cartoon's version of the song, with a few slight variations in the tempo and some of the spoken lines.
Watson told Entertainment Weekly that the film will expand on Belle's strained relationship with the townsfolk, with the character taking over the wacky inventor role that her father Maurice played in the cartoon. According to Watson, the townsfolk rebel after Belle invents a washing machine to free girls from their chores so that they can read more, destroying her creation in an attempt to "break her spirit."
"They don't think women should read, and it goes further than that," Watson said. "They are deeply suspicious of intelligence."
Beauty and the Beast also stars Dan Stevens as The Beast, Luke Evans as Gaston, Ian McKellen as Cogsworth, Emma Thompson as Mrs. Potts, and Kevin Kline as Maurice. Josh Gad, Stanley Tucci, Ewan McGregor, Audra McDonald, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw also appear. Bill Condon (Chicago) directed, based on a script from Stephen Chbosky (The Perks of Being a Wallflower) and Evan Spiliotopoulos (The Huntsman: Winter's War).
Beauty and the Beast, one of our 2017 movie releases you won't want to miss, dances its way into theaters on March 17.
