Watch The NSFW New Trailer For The CHIPS Reboot
Dax Shepard's new CHIPS movie definitely would not have been allowed to fly on NBC. The film, written and directed by Shepard, is a big departure from the family friendly 1970s police drama on which it is based. The Red Band trailer, released Thursday, really highlighted the reasoning behind its R-rating, featuring cursing, nudity, violence, and more.
Shepard stars in the movie as California Highway Patrol Officer Jon Baker, a beaten-up pro motorbiker who joined the force to pull his life and marriage back together. Michael Peña plays his partner Frank "Ponch" Poncherello, a cocky undercover federal agent investigating a multi-million dollar heist that he believes may have been an inside job within the CHP.
"The inexperienced rookie and hardened pro are teamed together, but clash more than click, so kickstarting a partnership is easier said than done," reads the synopsis. "But with Baker's bike skills combined with Ponch's street savvy it might just work... if they don't drive each other crazy along the way."
The trailer, which you can watch above, focuses mostly on Shepard and Peña, although it does give a glimpse at Adam Brody's perpetually injured FBI agent Clay Allen and at Shepard's real-life wife Kristen Bell, who plays the wife of his character Jon. Rosa Salazar and Vincent D'Onofrio also star. CHIPS will hit theaters on March 24, joining a number of other exciting new releases this month.
