Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt Stars Tease Season Three
The next season of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is going to be a heartbreaker. Jane Krakowski, who plays Jacqueline, told TVLine that she nicknamed the season "Love lost and Lemonade" (after the Beyonce album parodied in the first teaser) due to all of the break-ups and "moving on" that will occur.
First up on the relationship chopping block are Titus and Mikey, the adorable couple that bloomed in season two. "[Titus] gets off the boat... sooner than expected," Tituss Burgess said. "Nothing can go right in Titus' world. And he doesn't want to see Mikey until he gets a job. So he finally gets up the nerve to surprise Mikey... and it doesn't go so well. He sees something that he doesn't want to see. And subsequently, he starts Lemonade-ing." Burgess says that the Lemonade tribute will be more than just a marketing ploy, noting that "it's how he deals with the betrayal."
Also breaking up is Lillian and her accused murderer BF Robert "Bobby" Durst, played by Saturday Night Live's Fred Armisen, although Carol Kane teases that Lillian will find a new beau soon. The character will also find herself running for office in her continuing fight to keep hipsters out of her neighborhood. "I want my little gangs, the Banana Boys, to keep their turf," Kane said. "Plus, all my drug people! I've got to be able to buy from the stoop! So convenient."
One couple who does weather the storm is Jacqueline and Russ (David Cross), who stay together as they fight to get Russ' family to change the name of their NFL team, the Washington Redskins. However, while Jacqueline is ready to fight to protect her Native American heritage, she's still a little stuck in her fantasy land. "At the start of the season, Russ is in Africa, trying to fight rhino poaching," Krakowski said. "And Jacqueline doesn't understand why people care how rhinos are cooked."
The cast members didn't reveal any details on the season two cliffhanger, which saw Jon Hamm's Reverend Richard Wayne Gary Wayne calling Ellie Kemper's Kimmy and requesting a divorce. However, they did tease that there could be more big name guest stars, like Hamm, stopping by the show this season. "This year felt a little bit like the height of 30 Rock, when people were asking to come on to do little stunts," said Krakowski.
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt's third season hits Netflix on May 19. In the meantime, check out some of Netflix's other best original series.
