Iron Fist Won't Show Danny's Dragon Fight
Iron Fist got his powers in a pretty epic way, but Marvel doesn't plan on showing that in the character's upcoming Netflix series. Star Finn Jones spoke to Yahoo! UK about the show, saying that budgetary constraints prevented them from being able to fully realize Danny's comic book origins on screen.
In the comics, Danny gains the power of the Iron Fist by fighting an immortal dragon named Shou-Lao, literally plunging his fist into its heart and giving him the dragon-shaped scar on his chest that can be seen in the show's teasers. While Jones says they will "allude" to the Shou-Lao fight in "a very intelligent way" in both Iron Fist and The Defenders, he says that they had to be "realistic" when it came to actually depicting the fight on screen.
"I'd love to have the budget for these shows to have a full-on Game of Thrones style dragon," he said. "But unfortunately you know, we have budget restraints. That's the nature of the show."
While the dragon-less Iron Fist has faced generally negative reviews thus far, Jones promises that fans will "really enjoy what they see," adding that he thinks the show is of a similar quality to Marvel's previous Netflix outings, Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage.
Iron Fist, which also stars Jessica Henwick, Jessica Stroup, Tom Pelphrey, David Wenham, Rosario Dawson, and Carrie-Ann Moss, hits Netflix on March 17. While we wait, see why the show will actually be better than you think.
