Gru Meets His Twin In New Despicable Me 3 Trailer
Gru is tempted to return to a life of crime in the newest trailer for Despicable Me 3. While the first trailer for the upcoming threequel focused mostly on Trey Parker's Balthazar Bratt, the second put the focus solely on Steve Carell's Gru and his fraught relationship with his newly discovered twin brother Dru (also voiced by Carell).
The trailer shows what happens to Gru after Bratt successfully steals the world's biggest diamond. Gru loses his job, causing his adopted daughter Agnes to try selling her famous fluffy unicorn to help the family through their money issues. As Gru seems to have neared rock bottom, a man shows up telling him that his twin brother Dru would like to see him.
Dru is richer, handsomer, and has a full head of hair, immediately making Gru jealous of him. Comparing his dire situation to Dru's wealth makes Gru more willing to go along when he suggests a heist. "Face it Gru, villainy is in your blood," Dru tells him. "You ready to continue the family tradition, you and me?" Although Gru cautions the minions that "this does not mean that we are going back to being villains," it certainly seems like the character will be tempted to move over to the dark side.
Despicable Me 3 is scheduled to be released on June 30. In the meantime, see all of the other movies that will blow everyone away this year.
