New Okja Images Show Mustachioed Jake Gyllenhaal
Have you ever thought to yourself, "Hey, that Jake Gyllenhaal guy is pretty great, but what he really needs is a big mustache"? Well, folks, you're in luck. Netflix recently released a few images (via The Playlist) from their upcoming sci-fi film, Okja, and one of those pics features Gyllenhaal sporting a mighty fine set of whiskers. So what's up with the massive soup strainer? As it turns out, Gyllenhaal is playing Dr. Johnny Wilcox, a zoologist and TV show host who works for a group known as the Mirando Corporation. Of course, you can never trust a cinematic company—even one that employs a mustachioed Jake Gyllenhaal—and this big bad business seems to have some nefarious plans in director Bong Joon-ho's latest film.
According to the official plot description, Okja focuses on a young girl named Mija (Ahn Seo Hyun) who befriends a mysterious animal (the titular Okja) in the South Korean mountains. Unfortunately, the aforementioned Mirando Corporation eventually captures the poor creature, dragging it off to New York. Desperate to save her pal, Mija sets out on a daring rescue mission, all while dealing with "disparate groups of capitalists, demonstrators and consumers, each battling to control the fate of Okja." The film also features big names like Paul Dano, Giancarlo Esposito, Lily Colins, and of course, Oscar-winner Tilda Swinton as Lucy Mirando, the "image obsessed" CEO who's pulling all the strings.
Really, we'd check out anything starring Swinton, but the real draw here is Bong Joon-ho. The South Korean filmmaker has some rather impressive credits to his name, including Mother, The Host, and Snowpiercer. With this much talent (and Gyllenhaal's crazy facial hair), it's pretty much guaranteed that Okja will be a winner when it comes out June 28. In the meantime, you can learn about another actor who underwent an intense facial transformation while working with Bong Joon-ho.
