New Spider-Man: Homecoming Trailer Shows Peter Parker Eager To Prove Himself
In the last few days, we've spotted some pretty cool posters and teasers for the widely-anticipated Spider-Man: Homecoming, and now the big payoff is here. Marvel and Sony just dropped the second official trailer, and it's over two minutes of glorious web-slinging action.
Directed by Jon Watts, Spider-Man: Homecoming sees an anxious Peter Parker (Tom Holland) desperately wanting to join up with the Avengers. Even though his mentor, Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) would prefer the kid stay "a friendly, neighborhood Spider-Man" for the time being, Peter has bigger ambitions, especially when Adrian Toomes, a.k.a. the Vulture (Michael Keaton), dons his winged suit and begins reining down with supervillain destruction.
Unfortunately, Peter's unsupervised escapades have some disastrous consequences. Disappointed with his vigilante behavior, Tony essentially grounds Peter by taking away his high-tech suit (which is more than a tad hypocritical). Now eager to show he's worthy of the outfit, the young web-head sets off to fight some thugs and prove himself, all while wearing an improvised costume.
It's a pretty cool concept—a hoodie-wearing superhero against a gang of ultra-armored criminals. We're also loving the camaraderie between Peter and Ned Leeds (Jacob Batalon), not to mention that quick little Avengers cameo. But sadly, the trailer also reveals that, no, Peter Parker cannot summon an army of spiders, which is just too bad. One point for Ant-Man and his insect buddies.
Spider-Man: Homecoming will hit theaters on July 7, and while you're waiting to see Tom Holland defend the Big Apple, be sure to check out all the other actors who were almost cast as Spider-Man.
