Dane DeHaan And Cara Delevingne Save The Planet In New Valerian Trailer
The Fifth Element director Luc Besson is back with a new trailer for his upcoming sci-fi movie, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. The movie, which is based on the French graphic novel, follows Dane DeHaan as Valerian and Cara Delevingne as Laureline, two time-traveling partners charged by the government with maintaining order throughout the human territories. The two are forced to identity and prevent a mysterious threat to the city of Alpha, a metropolis where species from all over the universe have come together to share knowledge, intelligence, and culture.
The colorful new trailer has Besson's signature traits all over it, showing bright imagery and heavy action in combination with its high concept sci-fi premise. Using the same Beatles song as the teaser for its background, the new trailer spends more time focusing on the action than the previous footage, which devoted a good amount of time to the one-sided romance between Valerian and Laureline. "After centuries of peace and prosperity, an unknown force wants to destroy all we have created," teases the voiceover in the trailer. From what commander Arun Filitt (Clive Owen) tells them, Valerian and Laureline will have less than ten hours to find and eliminate the enemy, something which promises high stakes and high action.
Rihanna, John Goodman, Ethan Hawke, Kris Wu, and Herbie Hancock also star in the movie, which Besson also wrote the screenplay for. The film is due out on July 21; in the meantime, see all of the other movies we are looking forward to this year.
