Watch The New War For The Planet Of The Apes Trailer

The fight is on in the newest trailer for War for the Planet of the Apes. The third film in the rebooted series will see Caesar (Andy Serkis) and his apes forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless Colonel (Woody Harrelson). After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind.

The new trailer starts with voiceover flashbacks to Caesar's early days before moving into action, with the character saying, "I did not start this war. I fight only to protect apes." The colonel seems to espouse a similar but more violent motivation, telling his forces, "There are times when it is necessary to abandon our humanity to save humanity."

The trailer hints at a betrayal within Caesar's ranks, but focuses mostly on the escalating violence between Caesar and the Colonel, ending with what looks to be a scene from the climax of the film featuring the two attacking each other in a waterfall area. "Have you come to save your apes?" the Colonel asks Caesar. "I came for you," he answers.

Steve Zahn, Karin Konoval, Terry Notary, Judy Greer, Amiah Miller, and Gabriel Chavarria also co-star in the film, which was directed by Matt Reeves (Cloverfield, The Batman) based off a script from Reeves and Mark Bomback (The Wolverine). The film is due out on July 14, but in the meantime, you can watch the first trailer for more footage or read up on some past reboots that worked in a big way.
