Awesome Mix Vol. 2 Track List Coming In 'A Couple Weeks,' Says James Gunn
It won't be long before we get to hear the sweet sounds of Awesome Mix Vol. 2, according to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 director James Gunn. Gunn said during a Facebook Live on Monday morning that it will just be a couple of weeks before the full track list is released.
We do know at least two songs that definitely won't be included– "Magic" by Pilot and "Livin' Thing" by ELO, both of which Gunn says were cut from the first film. However, neither was able to make the cut for the sequel. There's also some songs featured in the trailers that we are fairly sure will appear, including "Fox on the Run" by Sweet. (Although Gunn has previously said on his Facebook that there's no guarantee that trailer songs are a part of the actual soundtrack.)
A few potential (but unlikely) inclusions can also be found on the cast's specially curated Awesome Mix, which includes each of their top picks for inclusion on the movie's soundtrack. (It's unclear which, if any, of the songs made the actual cut, although it's likely that they would have kept the film's real soundtrack off the list to avoid spoilers).
Guardians of the Galaxy relied heavily on music, and, from the sequel's synopsis (which begins with the words "Set to the backdrop of Awesome Mixtape Vol. 2"), it seems like the sequel is going to follow the same path. Seeing the full track list for the movie may not actually provide all that many plot details, but it will give fans a little bit more to dissect while they wait for the movie to hit theaters on May 5. In the meantime, you can also occupy yourself by reading up on the hidden details you may have missed in the movie's trailer.
