The Defenders Gets A Teaser And Premiere Date
The Defenders finally has a premiere date.
A new, very short teaser for the upcoming Netflix superhero team-up series reveals that the show will arrive August 18. The video, cryptically titled "Midland Circle Security Elevator B" (and quietly uploaded to the Netflix YouTube page) shows a grainy, black and white security camera view of the Defenders (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage) in an elevator going down, before Jessica punches out the camera. The timestamp right as the video ends shows "08:18:20:17."
The video doesn't give much of a hint about what the heroes might be doing, although Midland Circle already has a history on Marvel's Netflix shows, having had a pretty big and mysterious role in Daredevil's second season. The building is also, according to Entertainment Weekly, where all the Defenders will first meet up, with the outlet noting that they will all arrive on their own before running into each other and being forced to band together to fight through a group of enemies. The elevator scene could potentially show the aftermath of this fight, considering that Daredevil is wearing a makeshift mask and Luke's sweatshirt is torn up.
The video also contains another clue to the series. The IP address in the left corner leads to the website for the New York Bulletin, the fictional newspaper where Karen Page works. The Bulletin's website features interviews with Joy and Ward Meachum, as well as some teases to past events from Marvel's Netflix shows, including Luke's arrest, Jessica moving in with Trish's family, and Danny's return. The website teases that there will be a "brand new look and feel" coming soon, and also lists the premiere date for the show at the bottom.
The Defenders recently wrapped filming with a goal of premiering this summer, so the August 18 premiere date is fitting. Not much is known about the series other than it will feature the return of Marvel Netflix fan favorites including Rosario Dawson, Scott Glenn, Jessica Henwick, Rachael Taylor, Simone Messick, Deborah Ann Woll, Carrie-Anne Moss, Elden Henson, Elodie Yung, and Eka Darville. We also know Sigourney Weaver will be play the villain and that the series comes from Daredevil showrunners Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez.
While we wait for the show to premiere, find out the untold truth of the Defenders.
