Carrie Fisher Will Reportedly Appear In Star Wars: Episode IX
It looks like the late Carrie Fisher will be in Star Wars: Episode IX.
Her brother, Todd Fisher, spoke about her posthumous appearance in a recent interview with the New York Daily News. Fisher cleared up speculation about his sister's possible inclusion in future installments of the iconic saga, revealing that Disney is going to bring back Leia Organa.
He and Billie Lourd, Fisher's daughter who had a cameo in The Force Awakens, have signed and handed the studio rights to use additional footage for the upcoming film. Reportedly, the decision came after Fisher and Lourd struggled to figure out how handle Fisher's presence in the movies.
"Both of us were like, 'Yes, how do you take her out of it?' And the answer is you don't," he said. "She's as much a part of it as anything, and I think her presence now is even more powerful than it was. Like Obi Wan — when the saber cuts him down he becomes more powerful. I feel like that's what's happened with Carrie. I think the legacy should continue."
Though it's understood that Leia won't be recreated using CGI (like Grand Moff Tarkin in Rogue One), details about Leia's upcoming storyline are still unclear. But Fisher feels that Star Wars fans, including the head honchos at Lucasfilm, should see more of Leia moving forward. "I'm not the only part in that equation, but I think the people deserve to have her."
However, Fisher also commented that he's confident that Disney will take Leia's story in a positive direction and honor her memory. His assured demeanor is due in large part to the deep history of the franchise and its dedicated fanbase. "You don't mess with this legacy," he said. "It would be like rewriting the Bible. To me, Star Wars is the holy grail of storytelling and lore, and you can't mess with it."
Episode IX will reportedly begin shooting in early 2018 to be released in December 2019. While we wait for additional details on the upcoming flick, read up on the untold truth of Princess Leia.
