What's The Song In The Thor: Ragnarok Teaser Trailer?

It was probably only a matter of time before someone at Marvel realized how perfectly the Thor movies fit with Led Zeppelin.

If you saw the incredible first teaser trailer for Thor: Ragnarok (above), you were undoubtedly amped by the raucous song that accompanies it. But if you didn't spend much time in the 20th century, you might not immediately recognize that it's "Immigrant Song" from 1970's Led Zeppelin III.

While the iconic British metal forefathers were always a little obsessed with Norse mythology, it's on full display in this track, one of the few singles that Led Zeppelin ever released. Built on a repeating guitar riff from Jimmy Page, the centerpiece is Robert Plant's wailing vocals and lyrics that specifically mention Valhalla, the majestic hall of Asgard. Of course, Zeppelin released the song 13 years before Chris Hemsworth was even born, so it's all based on the same traditional Norse mythology that inspired Marvel's Thor comics.

The lyrics are written from the perspective of Vikings who are rowing west from Scandinavia in search of new lands, and Plant wrote them during Zeppelin's tour of Iceland, Bath, and Germany during the summer of 1970. The Rock and Roll Hall of Famers regularly opened their concerts with the hit from 1970 to 1972, and it's easy to hear why. If it doesn't pump you up, your earplugs are definitely too tight. And if it all sounds vaguely familiar, the opening sequence to David Fincher's The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo also features a postmodern update of the song by Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs frontwoman Karen O on vocals.

It's obvious that Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi is taking the Thor franchise in a different direction, one that the teaser indicates will be a little brighter and a lot more overtly fun. We already knew it would be one of the movies that will blow everyone away this year, but now we're even more ridiculously excited.
