Thor Prepares For Battle In New Ragnarok Poster

Thor has a lot to think about in the newest poster for Thor: Ragnarok.

In the image, released shortly after the film's first teaser trailer, the hero stands with his back to the camera, looking down at the helmet that he dons when he becomes a gladiator.

Ragnarok begins with Thor (Chris Hemsworth) finding out that his brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston) is pretending to be their missing father Odin (Anthony Hopkins), leading to some lax rule in Asgard and the release of the villainous Hela (Cate Blanchett). When Thor tries to fight back against the goddess, she banishes him to the desolate planet Sakaar, where he is captured by the elite warrior Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), who brings him to the Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum), a nefarious ruler who forces him to engage in gladiatorial contests. This includes a fight against the Thor's "friend from work" the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), who the hero will eventually team up with to go on a superhero road trip which will also include Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch).

The new poster is colorful and bright, much like the teaser trailer, which shows a very different Thor than what we've seen thus far. This is fitting with comments from director Taika Waititi, who has said that Ragnarok will "dismantle and destroy" the old idea of the franchise so that they can rebuild it "in a new way that's fresh."
