Dolph Lundgren Cast In Aquaman
The Aquaman team grows by one today. Dolph Lundgren has joined the titular underwater hero, played by Jason Momoa.
The Hollywood Reporter broke the news of Lundgren's casting. Fans may recognize Lundgren from his work in Rocky IV and the Expendables franchise, or even from the music video for the Imagine Dragons track "Believer." Now, he's taking on the role of King Nereus in the film.
Lundgren's character resides in Xebel, the aquatic kingdom which he, of course, rules. King Nereus seizes Aquaman's love interest Mera (Amber Heard), and sets out to kill the finned vigilante. In addition to Momoa and Heard, Lundgren will star alongside Nicole Kidman as Aquaman's mother, Patrick Wilson as Aquaman's villainous half-brother Orm, Willem Dafoe as adviser/scientist Dr. Vulko, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, and Temuera Morrison as Aquaman's father.
Lundgren's most recent appearance was in 2014's The Expendables 3. Choosing the DC film to dive into seems a great choice on his part, as he's no stranger to the DCEU. He played the evil underlord Konstantin Kovar on The CW's Arrow.
James Wan will direct based on a script by Will Beall. Production is expected to begin this May in Australia.
Aquaman will be released December 21, 2018. But fear not, DC fans. You can catch the ruler of the sea before that in Justice League, which will be released on November 17. Since we've still got a bit of waiting to do until then, check out how Aquaman will be different than other films.
