Star Wars: The Last Jedi Teaser Trailer Revealed
There was a great disturbance in the Force today, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in absolute joy.
As expected, Lucasfilm premiered the first teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi at the annual Star Wars Celebration in Orlando, and also as expected, it doesn't disappoint.
The eighth episode in the Star Wars saga (not counting Rogue One) reportedly picks up right where The Force Awakens left off: with Rey (Daisy Ridley) handing reclusive Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) his long-lost lightsaber. An early preview of footage revealed that Luke's first words to her are "Who are you?," implying that he doesn't know who she is. Of course, there's always a chance that Luke is just testing her. As the teaser reveals, he goes on to train Rey in the mysterious ways of the Jedi.
Director Rian Johnson (Brick, Looper) helmed the upcoming Episode VIII, taking over for The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams, who remains on as a producer. While most of the significant plot details remain under wraps, we do know that the film's title probably refers to more than one "last Jedi," and that Benicio del Toro and Laura Dern will enter the fray. It's believed that del Toro will play a shady character with unclear motives and Dern will portray Admiral Holdo, a divisive political rival to General Leia Organa.
The late Carrie Fisher will also appear in The Last Jedi, having wrapped filming for the movie before her death in December. She reportedly plays a bigger part in the movie than she did in The Force Awakens.
Johnson also unveiled the first official poster for the flick, which you can check out below.
This is just the beginning of what's sure to be a long year of hype for The Last Jedi, slated for release Dec. 15. We'll keep you posted as more trailers and details emerge. In the meantime, take a look at everything we know about the movie so far.
