Star Wars Rebels Will End With Season 4
An animated era is coming to an end.
A plethora of exciting announcements have been made over the course of the Star Wars Celebration weekend, but one in particular is more emotional than others. During an exclusive Star Wars Rebels panel at the event, Dave Filoni, co-creator and executive producer of the 'toon television series, revealed that the legacy of the Ghost crew will wrap up soon. Filoni confirmed that Season 4 is the final year of Star Wars Rebels.
Rebels cast members Freddie Prinze Jr. (Kanan), Tiya Sircar (Sabine), Taylor Gray (Ezra), Vanessa Marshall (Hera), and Steve Blum (Zeb) were in attendance at the panel on April 15, and helped unveil a touching trailer for the show's last season. Take a look in the video above.
Filoni also took the time to thank Rebels fans for their dedication to the show. "I really appreciate that love from you guys. I think I can make this story as meaningful as can be," he said.
Although the decision to end the series was his own, Filoni said it wasn't easy. He referenced the ill-fated Star Wars: The Clone Wars, which had multiple seasons planned out at the time of its cancellation, when he admitted that it's been difficult to say goodbye. "I know what it's like when I don't get to end a series," Filoni said.
Star Wars Rebels begins about five years before the happenings of the original 1977 film, A New Hope. According to Filoni, the events of the fourth season will end just as Episode IV kicks off. Additionally, it appears the status of Rebels characters, like the Force-sensitive fighters Kanan and Ezra, will be cleared up in Season 4 as well. After all, the final season does promise that "destinies are revealed."
Kanan and Ezra sticking around in the Rebel Alliance during the same timeframe Luke Skywalker is has been regarded as questionable at best, so perhaps everyone's fate isn't so peachy keen. Filoni seemed to back up this notion when he revealed that Rebels Season 4 is unlike anything the show's done before. "It's different... a little dark [and] a little fun," Filoni said. In any case, the final season will be one to remember.
Star Wars Rebels Season 4 will air 15 episodes beginning this fall on Disney XD. Until then, check out the things fans still don't understand about the Star Wars universe.
