Netflix Sets August Premiere Date For Kathy Bates Pot Comedy Disjointed
Netflix is celebrating 4/20 by getting a legendary actress stoned.
The streaming service released a short teaser video for its upcoming pot comedy Disjointed, showing American Horror Story actress Kathy Bates lighting up.
The comedy follows a Los Angeles-area marijuana dispensary led by Bates' character Ruth Whitefeather Feldman, alongside "three budtenders, her 20-something son, and a deeply troubled security guard." Ruth's lifelong mission, according to show co-creator Chuck Lorre, has been to decriminalize marijuana, with the series following her life after that mission is accomplished.
"Business, family, and romance are difficult–they're harder stoned," Lorre teased to Variety last year. Lorre and Bates previously worked together on Two and a Half Men, the show that provided Bates' first Emmy win after 10 nominations. She would earn another win two years later for American Horror Story: Coven.
The series was created by Lorre (of The Big Bang Theory fame) and David Javerbaum (The Daily Show). Chris Redd, Tone Bell, Aaron Moten, Michael Trucco, Elizabeth Alderfer, Elizabeth Ho, Dougie Baldwin, and Jessica Lu also co-star. Twenty episodes of the series will premiere on Netflix on August 25.
While we wait, take a look at the shows and movies it will have to compete with to become one of the best exclusive releases on Netflix.
