Luke Cage Season 2 To Begin Production In June

Get ready to return to Harlem soon. Luke Cage starts filming this summer.

During Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo (C2E2), Luke Cage star Mike Colter, who plays the titular crime-fighter himself, revealed (via ScreenCrush) that production on the show's second season will begin in June. Colter said that filming will likely last until March 2018, implying that the ultimate wrap time may lead to a mid-2018 premiere. Colter also mentioned he's read a handful of the season 2 scripts, but he kept a tight lip on those details.

Luke Cage marks yet another Marvel and Netflix collaboration to kick off production this year, coming shortly after the Krysten Ritter-led Jessica Jones, which is reportedly aiming for a February or March 2018 release. Reports suggest that Luke Cage will debut its second season on Netflix a bit later, perhaps sometime next summer.

Before he shows up in season 2, Colter is slated to appear as Luke Cage in another Marvel series on Netflix: The Defenders. The show brings together Luke Cage, Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), and Iron Fist (Finn Jones) as the superhero group. The series will also feature an ensemble including the likes of Rosario Dawson, Scott Glenn, Jessica Henwick, Rachael Taylor, Simone Messick, Deborah Ann Woll, Carrie-Anne Moss, Elden Henson, Elodie Yung, and Eka Darville. Sigourney Weaver is set to play the primary antagonist. The Defenders hits Netflix on August 18.

Colter could possibly appear in The Punisher, another Marvel and Netflix joint effort, but there's no word on a potential appearance just yet. The Punisher stars Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/the Punisher, Ben Barnes as Billy Russo/Jigsaw, Ebon Mass-Bachrach as Micro, and Amber Rose Revah as Dinah Madani. Plot details and a set debut date (apart from a 2017 window) for The Punisher haven't been revealed, but we'll update you as news breaks. One thing we do know for sure is that Rosario Dawson won't reprise her role as Claire Temple for the series.
