Taissa Farmiga Joins The Conjuring Spinoff The Nun
The Conjuring franchise is keeping it in the family for the upcoming spin-off The Nun. The movie, which will star Demian Bichir, has added American Horror Story actress Taissa Farmiga as the female lead, Deadline reports. Farmiga is the sister of Vera Farmiga, who starred as one of the two paranormal investigators at the center of The Conjuring and its sequel.
Taissa will play a young nun in the film, which will follow Bichir's Father Burke, who is sent to Rome to investigate the mysterious death of a nun (no word on if that nun is Taissa). The movie will be based on the creepy nun from The Conjuring 2, a character who was added at the last minute, when director James Wan decided that the demon nun would be scarier than the planned horned demon that had originally been stalking Patrick Wilson's and Vera's characters. The character was played by Drag Me to Hell's Bonnie Aarons, although it's unknown if she'll return for the spinoff.
Wan, who will produce the spin-off as he continues work on DC's Aquaman, congratulated Taissa on Twitter, writing that his goal is to "work with all the Farmigas." (Taissa and Vera are two of seven children, so that will be quite the feat.) Taissa, who is also known for The Bling Ring, The Final Girls, and Wicked City, wrote back that it is "truly a blessing" to be starring in the film.
The Nun will be the second spinoff of the Conjuring franchise, with creepy doll film Annabelle earning $200 million worldwide when it hit theaters in 2014. A sequel, Annabelle: Creation, will be released on Aug. 11, which could propel the franchise to more than $1 billion in box office sales worldwide. However, the franchise has been embroiled in some trouble, as a lawsuit from author Gerald Brittle could end up costing the studio $900 million. The Nun is slated to begin shooting in Romania this summer ahead of a planned July 13, 2018 release. Corin Hardy will direct based on a script from David Leslie Johnson. While we wait for the movie to be released, take a look at some horror roles that really messed with the actors' heads.
