Amazon Sets Premiere Date For The Tick
Start ticking down the minutes: we now know when The Tick's first season will be coming to Amazon. The streaming service announced Wednesday that they have set an August 25 premiere date for the upcoming comedy, which stars Peter Serafinowicz as the titular superhero.
Based on the comic of the same name, The Tick follows a powerless underdog accountant, played by Griffin Newman, who decides he must do something when he realizes his city is actually owned by a thought to be dead former supervillain. He calls on the help of Serafinowicz's strange blue superhero (who may or may not be real) to fight for justice. Yara Martinez, Jackie Earle Haley, Valorie Curry, and Brendan Hines also star.
The Tick has been adapted into a TV series twice before, with an animated series running for three seasons beginning in 1994 and a live-action series, starring Patrick Warburton, running for one season on Fox in 2001. Like the previous two series, this one also has the character's comics creator, Ben Edlund, behind it.
The Tick pilot, made available in August, was viewed more than 15,000 times in the first month, according to Polygon, leading to Amazon's decision to order the 10-episode first season. The date announcement for the upcoming episodes utilizes the tag "Fear not citizens. He's on his way" to tease that the series will be coming soon.
