Watch The Explosive Trailer For Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk
The soldiers will never surrender in the new trailer for Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk. The extended look at the highly anticipated film highlights the action and tension of the upcoming military drama, which tells the story of the 1940 evacuation of the French city of Dunkirk, where thousands of soldiers were left stranded on a beach surrounded by enemy forces.
"What has happened is a colossal military disaster," the voiceover in the trailer begins, over images of soldiers cowering from missiles and waiting on a beach. "We shall go on to the end. We shall never surrender." The rest of the trailer intersperses the action on the beach with the civilians who are called up to the help the soldiers, showing the tension between soldiers who believe the civilians' place is at home and civilians who feel that they need to help. "When 400,000 men couldn't get home, home came for them," reads the trailer.
"We shall fight on beaches," the trailer concludes, over a quick cut of action shots. "We shall fight on the landing ground. We shall never surrender."
Nolan, who is known for Interstellar and the Dark Knight trilogy, wrote and directed the film, which stars Tom Hardy, Mark Rylance, Kenneth Branagh, Cillian Murphy, Fionn Whitehead, and Harry Styles. Dunkirk, one of the many movies you won't want to miss this summer, is due out on July 21.
