Final Wonder Woman Trailer Unveiled
It's finally here: the last look at Wonder Woman before it's released for the silver screen this summer.
Warner Bros. unveiled the final Wonder Woman trailer during the MTV Movie and TV Awards on Sunday (May 7), and boy, does it take our breath away. Featuring an all-encompassing narrative, explosive action sequences, emotionally taxing self-sacrifices, and a prophecy that transcends generational bounds, the latest glimpse at Wonder Woman is pretty epic.
The trailer opens with a shot of the boot of Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) as she ascends a metal ladder, followed by a fleeting frame of her shield and a quick look at her staring off into some unknown distance. "Diana, fighting does not make you a hero," a voice says offscreen. A young Diana Prince responds, "What if I promise to be careful? Just a shield then. No sharp edges."
Wonder Woman then bounds through a scene of WWI battle, dodging enemy bullets and shielding herself from a line of fire. "Be careful of mankind, Diana. They do not deserve you," the voice warns.
Chris Pine's character, Wonder Woman's love interest and man of war Steve Trevor, is then introduced. Beached on an unfamiliar shore, Steve asks Diana, "Where am I? Who are you people?" She responds cooly, "We are the bridge to a greater understanding."
As the trailer winds on, more of the Wonder Woman plot is revealed. Steve and Diana join forces as he informs her of the burgeoning war and the nefarious Dr. Poison. Realizing she must use her powers to fight for the greater good, Diana dons her rope, sword, and shield (and then some era-appropriate garb) to take on the relentless band of baddies.
And of course, the trailer also highlights tons of gravity-defying stunts, including one in which Wonder Woman bursts through a window as she scares off an opponent, and another that sees her leap from building to building. Explosions are offset by beautiful images of Diana's homeland and idyllic childhood, hinting that Wonder Woman will strike a balance between Diana's two separate worlds.
Check out the intense final trailer in the video above. Here's the full synopsis: "Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers... and her true destiny."
Directed by Patty Jenkins, the movie also stars Connie Nielsen, Robin Wright, David Thewlis, Lucy Davis, and Danny Huston.
Wonder Woman is slated to open in theaters on June 2. While we try to wait patiently until then, prepare yourselves for the film by reading up on the dark history of Wonder Woman.
