Lightning Finds His Rival In New Cars 3 Trailer
Jackson Storm is trying to take Lightning McQueen's place in the new Cars 3 trailer– but Lightning isn't about to go down without a fight. The newest look at the upcoming Disney film focuses on Lightning's (Owen Wilson) rivalry with Armie Hammer's Storm, the leader of the "next generation of high tech racers" who are here to bump Lightning out of the top spot.
"Jackson Storm is in a class of his own," says an announcer at the start of the trailer, showing Lightning's tricked out new rival speeding around the track. "Hey champ, you had a good run," Storm says to the film's hero. "You have no idea what a pleasure it is for me to finally beat you." His tough language gets both of them to up the intensity in the race that follows, resulting in the epic (and nearly career-ending) crash shown in the film's grim first teaser.
Lightning, thankfully, survives the crash, and, eager for help in getting his career back on track, he returns to Radiator Springs, where he enlists some new help in bringing himself back to his former racing glory. "You'll never be the racer you once were," his friend tells him. "You can't turn back the clock, kid. But you can wind it up again."
Lightning will need to totally remake himself if he wants to win again, though. As an announcer notes, the racing world is changing, and he'll have to try new things to get back on top– including an interactive race simulation, which doesn't exactly go as planned. Despite his setbacks and the fact that Lightning knows that he can never be as fast as Storm, the persistent race car, along with a little help from some friends, decides he's going to find a way to be smarter.
Nathan Fillion, Cristela Alonzo, Kerry Washington, Bonnie Hunt, Tony Shalhoub, Larry the Cable Guy, Margo Martindale, Lea DeLaria, and Cheech Marin also star in Cars 3, which is directed by John Lasseter (Toy Story) and Joe Ranft (Cars) based on a script by the team of Lasseter, Ranft, Jorgen Klubien, Dan Fogelman, Kiel Murray, and Phil Lorin. The movie, one of many that will blow you away this summer, will drive into theaters on June 16.
