The CW Renews The Originals, iZombie
Two more of The CW's staple shows will return for next season. Variety reports that the network has renewed The Originals and iZombie, with the two supernatural series joining the Arrow-verse, Jane the Virgin, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Supernatural, and The 100 as returning series for next year.
iZombie stars Rose McIver as Liv Moore, a medical resident whose life gets turned upside down when she is turned into a zombie. She winds up taking a job at a morgue alongside her friend and boss Dr. Ravi Chakrabarti (Rahul Kohli), and, with the assistance of the psychic powers she gets from eating people's brains, she and Ravi assist Seattle Police Detective Clive Babineaux (Malcolm Goodwin) in solving the city's toughest homicides. Robert Buckley, Aly Michalka, and David Anders also star.
Creator Rob Thomas (Veronica Mars) previously said that he was sure the series would return for season four despite its low ratings. He says that the season three finale will be "a pretty major reset" for the show that will set up for even more explosive drama when the series returns, likely next spring.
The Originals follows the Mikaelson family of vampires, first introduced on The Vampire Diaries, as they deal with supernatural threats in New Orleans. Joseph Morgan, Danielle Gillies, Phoebe Tonkin, and Danielle Campbell star in the series, which was created by TVD's Julie Plec.
With TVD wrapping up its run earlier this spring, some were nervous its spin-off wouldn't live to see another season. However, the show has remained steady in the ratings and has evenly slightly increased in viewership since its third season. There is no word yet on when the show's fifth season will premiere.
The CW has already canceled freshman dramas No Tomorrow and Frequency, with iZombie and The Originals the last two shows waiting to learn their fate at the network. While we wait for more of The CW's hits, see the other TV shows that are going to blow you away this year.
